Brass CUZN10 : copper and zinc alloy
CUZN10 brass, also known as C22000, is an alloy of copper and zinc. As its name indicates, it is composed of 10% zinc and 90% copper. The CUZN10 alloy has a red/gold colour and can also be defined as half-red brass. It is very efficient for cold forming, embossing, pressing or hammering.
Cu Zn 10 : standards
At the international level, the standards are different and CU ZN 10 is referred to in different ways:
- France (AFNOR): Cu Zn 10 (or CUZN10)
- Germany (DIN): Cu Zn 10 (or CUZN10)
- Europe (EN): CW501L
- ASTM : C22000
Properties and applications of CUZN10
The characteristics of the Cu Zn10 alloy include excellent mechanical properties, very good flexural strength and low conductivity. It also has good corrosion resistance, comparable to that of copper. Thanks to its 90% copper content, C22000 brass is not susceptible to seasonal cracking (intercrystalline cracking due to sudden temperature changes).
In terms of its applications, copper alloy CuZN10 is used in many sectors such as the automotive industry (fuel injectors, etc.), decoration, household appliances (resistance wires, etc.), the manufacture of strings for musical instruments such as guitars, heating applications, etc.
